THE weather was a challenge, but the Take A Swing For Charity golf day at Sandhurst Golf Club last Monday was hailed a "great success".
More than 80 golfers aimed to raise $30,000 for the city's hungry while playing for prizes.
Coffey Ford in Dandenong donated a new Ford Zetec for a hole-in-one competition.
Greater Dandenong chief executive John Bennie said 20 teams in groups of four,
representing a range of businesses in the Dandenong region, hit off.
"They came not only to network and support Avocare but to help raise the funds for charity," he said.
"But it was a windy day and noone scored a hole-in-one, so noone won the car," he said.
Take a Swing for Charity was organised to raise money to buy freezers and cool rooms for the Dandenong Food Alliance network.
South East Business network manager Paul Dowling said it was "very successful and a fun day".
"Financially it was a huge success where our total was met and more than 80 people from businesses in the region took part. Businesses were well represented," he said.
Peter O'Malley, general manager of the major sponsor, Gelpack Enterprises of Noble Park, said beforehand that every cent raised on the day would go to the cause.
Businesses put up teams of four for $1000 to play a game of golf.
