YOUNG table tennis tyro Heming Hu has crowned an impressive 2009 by being named the Greater Dandenong Table Tennis Association player of the year.

Hu, 15, was by far the player of the year, association president Brett Sonnet said last Monday in presenting him with his trophy.

Sonnet told players at the association’s Cleeland Street headquarters that Hu’s performance had been outstanding.

Hu’s achievements include winning the boys under-15 singles and doubles national championships and the U15 mixed doubles. He is also the boys under-18 team champion and mixed doubles champion and was runner-up in the U18 singles.

Hu, a finalist in the Journal Sports Star of the Year in 2007, said he was proud to have won the award. He said Greater Dandenong was a strong association and table tennis ‘‘a great game’’.
