Opener cracks 234

08 Feb, 2010 09:30 AM
HALLAM Kalora Park C-grade opener Harjot Singh carried his bat in blasting 234 and provided a master class to Endeavour Hills in Dandenong District Cricket Association action on Saturday.

Singh's double ton is the highest individual score of the competition this season and propelled his side to a potentially match-winning score of 5-420.

Singh had strong support from Naveed Azimi with 72 in their 191-run third-wicket stand. John Sing chimed in at the end with a quick-fire 42, while the Hills' opening bowler Jeff McBride toiled hard for his 3-75 off 18 overs.

Narre Warren's Mark Lochery almost pulled off the bowler's equivalent of a double ton in Egrade, taking 9-64 off 25.3 overs against Buckley Ridges, which was all out for 141. Narre undid some of Lochery's fine work, falling to 3-33 at stumps.

Hampton Park E-grade batsman Adrian Calcedo blasted 165 against Lynbrook, and Buckley Ridges' F-grade opener Steve Dalla-Zanna put North Dandenong to the sword with 143.

Hard-hitting Ridges' turf1 opener Daniel Watson smashed 111 as his side reached 8-346 against North Dandenong.

In The Journal's senior game of the week, Mordialloc No. 5 Tim Richardson helped rescue his side from a precarious 4-42 to post 239 against Coomoora in turf1.

Richardson strode to the crease with his side in big trouble after Coomoora opener Justin Woodman (3-24) produced a fiery opening spell. But partnerships were the order of the day for Richardson, who hit six fours and two sixes in his knock of 69, supported by Aaron Martello (24) and Andrew Taylor (26).

No. 10 Liam Bence joined Richardson at the crease late and his lusty 43, including four mammoth sixes, helped the pair put on 67 and make the total respectable. Rob Johnston picked up 3-52 for Coomoora. Coomoora's openers saw off the only over they had to face and were 0-1 at stumps.

Springvale South under 13(1) captain Cam Scott led the way in The Journal's junior game of the week, notching his first 50 of the season as his side reached an imposing 8-245 against Hallam Kalora Park.

Scott batted at three and retired on 50, but he had a willing partner in Mitch Healey (24), who has been dismissed in the 20s nine times this season. Sanjay Kahawatte's 35 not out was complemented by Nathaniel Cramer's 24 and Lachie Craig's 25 not out, which included a six.
