Rangers fail to halt Adelaide

27/10/2008 9:16:00 AM
THE Dandenong Rangers will be keen to grab a win against Perth this week after losing to reigning premier Adelaide last Friday night.

Standing out in their pink uniforms to promote Pink Ribbon Day, the Rangers were offensively solid at times up against one of the league's most imposing line-ups.

Touted as championship favourite, the Lightning brought its A-game to town, running quick transitions and finishing strongly in the paint. They also enjoyed plenty of time at the foul line.

The Rangers were busted on the whistle (25 fouls) and punished accordingly with Adelaide dropping 25 points from 30 free throws.

It was a key difference in the game.

Dandenong was more than competitive, but lacked the finishing touch and the ability to shut down Adelaide's Jess Foley (20 points, 10 rebounds), Angie Marino (18 points) and Cayla Francis (18 points, 11 rebounds).

American import Jennifer Benningfield (21 points) continued her good run of form for the Rangers, Alison Downie (13 points) was solid, while Caitlyn Ryan (12 points) did her bit.

The loss leaves the Rangers eighth on the ladder with one win from three games, while Adelaide continue to lead the way with four successive wins to start the season.
