IT'S a case of 'on your bike' this week for students at Keysborough College's Heatherhill campus as they saddled up for Ride 2 School Day.
Vaunted as the country's largest celebration of active travel to school, Ride 2 School Day is a program that aims to increase the number of students walking or riding to school.
Ride 2 School co-ordinator Robert Sharp said the school had encouraged students who are normally driven to school to make a special effort for the day.
He said students who felt they lived too far could take their bikes on the train and ride from Sandown or Noble Park stations or get dropped at a friend's house and ride (or walk) to school from there.
Bicycle Victoria's chief executive Harry Barber said more than 1000 schools and 100,000 students were involved in last year's event.
"National Ride2School Day allows parents and teachers to embrace active travel as an alternative," Mr Barber said.
"The event has become the largest ever national celebration of walking and riding to school."
