Springvale rezoning put on hold

02 Nov, 2009 08:34 AM
GREATER Dandenong Council has postponed a decision that would have seen parts of Springvale rezoned until after the State Government decides on its planning policy review.

Cr Peter Brown led the charge to postpone amendment C73, the Springvale Structure Plan, as it involved rezoning parts of the suburb as residential 2.

This would allow high-density development in parts of the city, but deny established residents appeal rights.

The Government is in the process of looking at this policy and it has been proposed that appeal rights be reinstated.

Cr Brown said he'd prefer the State Government to take the lead and the council make a decision once the policy was set in concrete.

The council's director of development services Mal Baker said the Department of Planning and Community Development had advised there was no fixed date for a decision.

Springvale is defined as a major activity centre under the Government's Melbourne 2030 strategy. The council has develop a structure plan to guide development in and around the centre.
