AN Endeavour Hills primary school is part of a national pilot program aimed at reducing children's exposure to cyber risks.
Chalcot Lodge Primary School principal Kay Schlanger said the eSmart Schools' national pilot program involved teachers, pupils and parents undertaking cybersafety activities throughout the year to work towards becoming one of the first eSmart accredited schools in Australia.
"At Chalcot, we use technology every day to facilitate student learning.
"While we embrace the benefits of technology, it is important that we never ignore the risks," Ms Schlanger said.
"Children are becoming internet savvy at a younger age.
"It is vital that we educate them about how to stay safe online and what to do if they have a problem."
The program, funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, is an initiative of the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.
Parents and carers were invited to a free 'ThinkUKnow' cybersafety session last Thursday hosted by Chalcot Lodge Primary School presented by the Australian Federal Police and Microsoft Australia and covered a variety of topics, including cyber-bullying.
